Most black parents would agree that all black children should be taught their roots. But I like to take it a step further and say that all black children should get to experience their roots. By roots, I mean our ancestral homeland.
Me and my wife traveled to Africa with our children back in 2020 and they loved it. The experience was not only fun, but also culturally enriching. But we know that all children will not get to visit Africa in person, so my wife decided to write a book about our time spent there from our daughter’s perspective to give other black children an experience of their roots as well.
Based on a true story, MARIAH GOES TO AFRICA is about our then, six-year-old daughter, who dreamed of visiting the motherland every single night until she manifested it into reality. It takes you on her journey from America to the motherland and all the lessons and experiences she learned along the way.
So, if you’re a parent with children who’ve never been to Africa, then check out this book for your lil one and maybe even yourself. It’s illustrated with rich images designed by a native African woman and the story was penned by my wife Ashley.
It’s currently available on Amazon.com. Read and enjoy!
